Everything is ready for the flying boats in the sea of Taranto. The SailGP on June 5-6 will bring eight F50 catamarans to Italy and mobilize a global audience of well over one billion people, under the banner of Powered by Nature.
SailGP is one of the most prestigious sailing competitions in the world, together with the American’s Cup and The Ocean Race, very significant from a sporting point of view, but also interesting from a scientific point of view, for the technologies of the future used in the F50s, real and own racing cars of the sea capable of reaching 50 knots, that is to say almost 100 kilometers per hour.

The big world sportsmen will be present with the jerseys of Australia, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Japan, Spain, New Zealand and the United States, the greatest skippers in the world will compete in the Apulian waters, including 18 Olympic athletes – a name for all is that of Francesco Bruni, global myth of Luna Rossa – aboard catamarans armed with foil that fly the hulls and lithium-ion batteries that power the hydraulic motors used to adjust the sails. This system allows you to have on board only two grinders and a crew reduced to five sailors.
Contrary to other regattas, where the result is distorted by the different technological power of the boats, in SailGP the boats are identical and the skill of the athletes makes the difference.
The batteries will be powered by the sun, thanks to a Tesla-branded charging station with over 50 kilowatt hours generated by solar panels. In this way, generators powered by poisonous diesel are set aside to use only clean energy.
