Savona, tragedy in front of the Fornaci with kite surfing: the entrepreneur Claudio Tiranini died

Tragedy in the afternoon in the stretch of water in front of the Fornaci. A 67-year-old from Savona, Claudio Tiranini, a well-known entrepreneur and chef (with his sister Pervinca he manages the “Mare Hotel” in via Nizza) who was kite surfing with his son Alberto fell off the board and got entangled in the rope of the sail. Rescued by the Port Authority, but now in desperate conditions, he died half an hour later in the San Paolo emergency room.

According to the first reports, the man had taken off with a group of kite surfing enthusiasts (which consists in gliding on the water with a board using the force of the wind thanks to a large kite) taking advantage of the marine weather conditions, the waves and the wind. It was the son who gave the alarm when he, returned to shore, he saw that his father was at the mercy of the waves (three meters, according to the Captaincy), the kite in the sea. He called the Harbor Master’s Office, asked for help. And the rescue operations were started which engaged the coast guard patrol boat, the 863. Within 5 minutes the crew reached the castaway and not without difficulty loaded him on board (he was entangled in the rope). The man’s conditions, however, were already serious, desperate. The patrol boat headed for the Harbor Master’s Office, where the 118 emergency medical service and a crew of the White Cross were waiting. And during the voyage the crew continued to revive the sixty-seven-year-old. Then the transport to the San Paolo where the death was declared around 6.45 pm.
