1. FC Kaiserslautern has continued its upward trend under Friedhelm Funkel. The Palatinate team scored points against Hannover 96, but have to worry about Ragnar Ache after an injury. The top striker is likely to miss against top opponents in the coming weeks.

Friedhelm Funkel was satisfied. “We performed well here, hardly allowed anything in the first half, and then of course we were a bit lucky, but we defended with passion,” said the coach of 1. FC Kaiserslautern after the 1-1 (0-0) draw at Hannover 96 : “That one point helps us. I am convinced of that. We are on the right track, but we now have difficult games ahead of us against Fortuna Düsseldorf, Hamburger SV and Holstein Kiel.”

Lower Saxony, on the other hand, has been without a win for a month now, but remains in fifth place in the table. “It was a game of patience. The Lauterers had adapted very well to us and the rooms were quite small. And we didn’t find the solutions, we struggled. The penetration power in the final third was missing. The draw is okay, but it’s not enough for our needs. We have to start winning again. We are still within striking distance, but the games are becoming fewer,” analyzed Hannover goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler.

That cannot be our claim. “We have to take the lead and then we can play our game and let the ball run,” said Hannover’s goalscorer angrily.

On the other side, Raschl (90+2) even missed the opportunity to score the FCK victory when he hit the crossbar from a distance. FCK’s joy was marred by an injury to Aches. The top striker grabbed his thigh after a sprint. “I only spoke to him briefly but he said it wasn’t looking too good. It’s probably a torn muscle fiber,” reported Funkel.
