The man from Belluno is in the United States to study and has won the university championships
SAN FRANCISCO (UNITED STATES)
Uncontainable Alessio Sommacal. The promising obstacle player from Belluno, who grew up in the Belluno Firex Athletic club and since last year in the United States to study (at California State Polytechnic University), in the States is experiencing a spring characterized by excellent performances. After filing his staff on 110 obstacles twice in early April, on Saturday in San Francisco he lowered his personal best even further, stopping the stopwatch hands at a time of 14 “15. The personal precedents were 14” 22 (set on Friday in qualifying heats), 14 ”26 (established at Stanford) and 14” 18 (in San Diego).
Saturday’s performance not only gave him his new personal best, but he was crowned champion of the California Collegiate Athletic Association – Division II. It was a really important performance, also considering the fact that over the weekend he underwent a real tour de force, for the needs of society: he improvised himself in the triple jump, gliding over 14 meters; he ran the 110 obstacles, with the results we have said; he ran the 200 in 22 ”09; he raced the 4×100, setting the new Cal Poly Pomona record (40 ”76).
Tour de force that is not over yet. The next ten days for Alessio will be the most important ones of the academic year, given that the first year exams are scheduled. Then, at the end of May, there will be the NCAA Division II finals, finals to which the top twenty of the ranking are admitted. Sommacal is currently fourteenth.
At the beginning of June there will be the return to Italy, until mid-August. It will be a June of fire: on June 10th and 11th in Florence the Italian Promises will play, at the end of the month in Rieti the absolute tricolors.
