The national table tennis team, which is undergoing closed training in Weihai, Shandong, opened a three-day warm-up match for the Tokyo Olympics on June 20. This warm-up competition consists of mixed doubles and men’s and women’s team competitions. The warm-up match during the closed training camp is based on the difficulty and strictness of the point of view, no matter from the choice of the opponent or the schedule, it is based on maximizing the competitive state of the main players.

According to the opponents of the Tokyo Olympics, the coaching staff targeted the strongest simulated players in the team, and also invited the Hong Kong team of China to participate in this warm-up match. Chen Jianghua, head coach of the Hong Kong team of China, said: “Thank you to the Chinese Table Tennis Association for giving us the opportunity to train and warm up with the Chinese team. This time the team members were enveloped by the Olympic atmosphere as soon as they entered the Weihai base, and the whole person was immediately mobilized. This warm-up match is very important.”

On June 20th and 21st, the first mixed doubles competition will be held. Xu Xin/Liu Shiwen, Wang Chuqin/Wang Manyu, Lin Gaoyuan/Zhang Rui, Zhou Qihao/Gu Yuting and the Hong Kong team Huang Zhenting/Du Kaiqin and other groups of different play styles played round robin, and finally decided the mixed doubles champion. It is worth mentioning that the time of this mixed doubles match also matches the time of the mixed doubles match of the Tokyo Olympics.

In the mixed doubles match on the first day, Xu Xin/Liu Shiwen adjusted their status in time after losing one game, and finally defeated Zhou Qihao/Gu Yuting 4-1. After the match, Liu Guoliang, chairman of the Chinese Table Tennis Association, summoned the coaches in charge of mixed doubles, Ma Lin, Chen Qi, Xu Xin and Liu Shiwen to resume the game, and to carry out targeted and intensified training for the problems in the game. On the same day, the “Xinwen Lianbo” group also had a strong dialogue with Wang Chuqin/Wang Manyu. As soon as the game started, Wang Chuqin/Wang Manyu quickly entered the state and won the first game 11 to 8. However, Xu Xin/Liu Shiwen adjusted their status and pulled three rounds in a row. Afterwards, although Wang Chuqin/Wang Manyu pulled back one game, the situation was still under the control of Xu Xin/Liu Shiwen. In the end, they defeated Wang Chuqin/Wang Manyu 4-2 and ushered in two consecutive victories.

Huang Zhenting/Du Kaiyan also played two matches on the first day. They lost to Lin Gaoyuan/Zhang Rui 2-4. In the contest with Zhou Qihao/Gu Yuting, Huang Zhenting/Du Kaiyan were in a 2-0 lead, and Zhou Qihao/Gu Yuting stubbornly dragged the game into a decisive round. In the deciding game, Zhou Qihao/Gu Yuting made their moves more decisively, winning the game 11-6.

The team competition will be held on June 22 and 23, and the four teams of men and women teams will adopt a round-robin system. In addition to the Chinese men’s and women’s first team composed of the Olympic lineup, the other three teams are all “blue forces” carefully selected by the coaching staff. At the same time, in order to increase the actual intensity of the competition, each team match will be played 5 games. (Reposted from the 03 edition of China Sports Daily on June 21)
