The Swiss Federal Supreme Court announced yesterday (4th) that China’s three-time Olympic champion and swimmer Sun Yang’s final appeal against the doping sanctions was rejected, and the ban was maintained until June 2024.

According to Agence France-Presse, a Swiss court ruled that the penalty imposed by the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) “does not violate the basic principles of legal order” and that Sun Yang’s right to be heard “has not been violated.”

According to previous reports, on September 4, 2018, the International Doping Control Management Corporation (IDTM), entrusted by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), sent three staff to Sun Yang’s residence to conduct a surprise anti-doping inspection outside the competition. , But because Sun Yang questioned the qualifications of two of the three inspectors and refused to cooperate, during the dispute between the two sides, Sun Yang’s security guard smashed the blood test bottle with a hammer on the spot. IDTM later sued FINA, claiming that Sun Yang had “violently resisted the inspection”.

On February 28, 2020, the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced that Sun Yang refused to cooperate in the doping inspection conducted on the evening of September 4, 2018, violated relevant anti-doping regulations, and was suspended for eight years.

Sun Yang filed a petition with the Swiss High Court on April 28 and June 15, 2020, requesting that the CAS ruling be revoked and the case retrial. On December 24, 2020, the Swiss Federal Supreme Court ruled to revoke the previous ruling of the International Court of Arbitration for Sport involving Sun Yang.

Sun Yang’s ban was reduced from the original eight years to four years and three months, starting in February 2020. It will be implemented on the 28th and will end at the end of May 2024.

The latest ruling of the Swiss Federal Court has ended the “Sun Yang case” that has lasted for more than three years. The suspension period will expire at the end of May 2024.
