Technology at the service of sport to prevent and reduce injuries

The improvement of performance, in elite sport, also passes through technology. The last frontier of sporting innovation is a constant and shared monitoring of the state of form of each individual athlete. It is on this basis that the Powerset Pro platform was born, currently used in trials by various Serie A and Premier League clubs, designed precisely to integrate structure, function and history data in the assessment of injury risk reduction. The software is produced by the Italian start-up Feel Good Plus, founded by Federico Genovesi (Manchester City physiotherapist) and by physicist Alessandro Ricci, chaired by an old acquaintance of Italian football such as Aleksandar Kolarov, who was able to make a contribution of personal knowledge on the subject within the international football environment. In various situations, especially in Italy, there is no system of sharing the conditions of the athletes outside, but also between professionals belonging to the same club.

The strategy

The Powerset Pro goal, which in 2022 was included in the incubator of Wylab, it is precisely that of providing medical and performance teams with a complete visualization system on the state of form of athletes. The platform allows to record and analyze data relating to the musculoskeletal health of athletes through a graphic interface consisting of a three-dimensional body map, conceived as an open system. The dashboard thus connects the medical, performance team and the technical staff of the athlete’s team, but also the external professionals who follow him in the course of his activity: surgeons, staff of the national reference teams and Federations, or others preparers. In this way, the technology allows you to share the athlete’s clinical and training picture with all the professionals involved in his performance.

A dedicated app for athletes

“The systems I have seen abroad are based on performance data – explains Federico Genovesi, founder of Feel Good Plus – we have also emphasized medical data and we have increased the information available”. An app is made available to athletes, which provides medical and fitness questionnaires, but also the possibility of drawing up training plans remotely. All followed by a team that includes data scientists, ui / ux designers and professionals in the elite sport sector, with the support of a Scientific Committee made up of internationally renowned experts. The platform is already used in trials by various Serie A and Premier League clubs, but also by some NBA franchises, which in recent years have been focusing precisely on the issue of injury prevention to improve performance. Just think of the last Finals, won by Golden State, thanks also to the return to the top of the condition of Klay Thompsonforced to stay out for 941 days due to two serious injuries to the cruciate and Achilles tendon.
