The 11th China Women’s Go League A Kicks Off in Bengbu

Bengbu, Anhui Province – The “Rural Revitalization·Beautiful China” 2024 11th “CITIC Heye Cup” Chinese Women’s Go League A officially began on April 13th in Bengbu, Anhui Province. The event, organized by the China Go Association, saw some surprising upsets in the first round.

In his opening speech on the 12th, Chang Hao, chairman of the Chinese Go Association, emphasized the importance of the Chinese Women’s Go League A in promoting and nurturing the country’s female Go players. He highlighted how the league has grown over the past decade, even attracting foreign players and inspiring similar leagues in countries like South Korea and Japan.

The defending champion Shanxi Shuhai Luxin team and the dominant Jiangsu Zhiyuan team both suffered losses in the first round matches held at Bengbu Station. The Shanxi team was defeated by the Xiamen International Bank team, while Jiangsu lost to the newly promoted Guangdong Go Association team.

Apart from these surprising results, other matchups saw the Chengdu Bank team, the Zhejiang Sports Lottery team, and the Hangzhou Yunlin decisive team emerge victorious.

In a heartwarming gesture before the games began, Bengbu Station announced plans to donate and construct a Go classroom and organize chess activities at the Lake Shengming Moon Scenic Area. The league organizing committee also contributed to the initiative by donating Go equipment and organizing a public welfare guided chess game involving professional players and Go enthusiasts from Bengbu City.
