Matteo Eydallin and Michele Boscacci sign 38th Transcavallo, the historic team race of ski mountaineering between Alpago and Piancavallo. A strongly desired edition was the Transcavallo 2021, whose “subtitle” was Long Distance Team 7.0 to underline the 7,000 total altitude difference, up and down the 7 peaks reached, distributed between Veneto and Friuli.
Immediately after the start given at Malga Cate (Chies d’Alpago) Matteo Eydallin and Michele Boscacci took the lead and, climbing towards Mount Guslon, showed all their opponents their intentions to win the race. Matteo Eydallin and Michele Boscacci, very favorite color bearers of the Army Sports Center, started in the lead and kept the lead for the entire duration of the race.
In the spectacular ascent of the Canalino del Podestà the two leaders set the pace for the conquest of Monte Guslon. On the snows of Piancavallo the two then administered the advantage trying every now and then to enjoy the panorama that swept from the Dolomites to the Adriatic Sea, Eydallin-Boscacci stopped the clock in 3h36’51 ” while behind them they classified with the time of 3h46’19 ” William Boffelli and Jakob Herrmann. Third Julien Michelon and Yoann Sert.
In the women’s field Bianca Balzarini and Corinna Ghirardi won the Transcavallo with a time of 4h51’58 ”; behind them the Comelian couple Cecilia De Filippo and Martina De Silvestro. In third position went Federica Osler with Dimitra Theocharis.
In the Master race, good second place for the couple from Belluno made up of Raul Barattin and Federico Pat.
“The 2021 edition of the Transcavallo was evidently characterized by anti-Covid principals and for this very reason, and to demonstrate once again the resilience of the” mountain people “we wanted to design a track where strength, technique and endurance I was put to the test for the effort », says the president of the organizing committee, Diego Svalduz. «Val Salatis, Monte Guslon, Monte Cornor, Monte Tremol, aerial ridges, steep canals and acrobatic descents, were the main ingredients of a race from the past. The route designed was long, very long, the kilometers traveled were about 32, never trivial, with a positive difference in height of 3,520 meters spread over the climb of seven peaks, some of which were tackled on foot, with crampons shod and with skis in the backpack ».
“The Transcavallo 2021 which awarded points for the Grande Course was a journey, an exciting and tiring path that will remain in the memories of the competitors”, adds the technical coordinator of the event, Vittorio Romor.
In addition to the team competition, there was also room for the individual one. To win, the very strong Austrian athlete Paul Verbnjack with a time of 1h30’08 ” in second position is the Tarvisian Claudio Muller while in third is Peter Leiter. In the women’s field, the Austrian Stephanie Kroll wins with a time of 1h47’22 ”. In second and third position are Erica Turi and Claudia Titolo. It should be emphasized that on Friday evening the organizers, to accompany the Transcavallo, wanted to bring the traditional torchlight procession back to the snow of Guslon which a few years ago was a real party that anticipated the sporting event. A particular torchlight procession with a single person who lit the other torches arranged in the shape of a heart right on the slopes of Mount Guslon.
