Pan Zhanle breaks world record

People’s Daily, Beijing, February 12 (Reporter Sun Longfei) On February 11, local time, in the men’s 4×100 meter freestyle relay finals of the 2024 World Swimming Championships in Doha, Qatar, the Chinese team won the championship, and Pan Zhanle took the first shot. The result set a new world record in the men’s 100-meter freestyle.

The Chinese team advanced in fourth place in the preliminaries. In the final, the Chinese team consisting of Pan Zhanle, Ji Xinjie, Zhang Zhanshuo and Wang Haoyu won the championship with a time of 3 minutes, 11.08 seconds. 19-year-old Pan Zhanle swam 46.80 seconds in the first leg, which improved the men’s 100-meter freestyle world record by 0.06 seconds previously held by the Romanian team’s Popovich.

The 2024 World Swimming Championships opened on February 2, local time. Currently, the diving, synchronized swimming and open water swimming events have been completed. The swimming competition started on February 11. As of that day, the Chinese team had won a total of 17 golds, 6 silvers and 1 bronze in each event, temporarily ranking first in the medal list.
