The clubs: “There will be a postponement, we will use midweek shifts”

TREVISO

The Excellence, like the other regional championships, will return to the field on January 30th, unless further postponements. The three-week suspension due to Covid was welcomed by insiders. A pinch of optimism came from the shortening of the timing for the “return to play” (the procedure that athletes recovered from Covid must follow to return to sporting activity), but there is no shortage of worries for the future.

Gabriele Fassina, sporting director of Godigese: “I agree on the suspension of the championship, but I fear that it will not restart on the 30th. Probably at the end of the month the number of infections will still be high, a further postponement may be necessary to then resort to some midweek shift. However, the main stumbling block is the “return to play”: the fact that after the negativization a player no longer has to remain stationary for 30 days before redoing the medical examinations, but now “only” for 7 or 14 days depending on the case, is challenged by the overworking of medical centers. So the time you gain on the one hand is lost in the waiting queue as the structures are overloaded with appointments. A medical examination which, in my opinion, would not even help if a player was asymptomatic: once negativized, he should immediately receive the green light ».

Marco Marchetti, coach of Portomansuè who on 23 January will play the regional final of the Italian Cup with Montecchio, Covid permitting: «Postponement of the second half is correct. The biggest problem is the “return to play”: with the 30-day stop of the previous protocol, combined with the high contagiousness of this period, it became impossible to manage the championship. Apparently the times have been reduced, otherwise a player who is currently positive would not have been back available before February. Imagine how many absences in the case of more positives in the team: we do not have 30 players like in Serie A. So the “luck” of avoiding contagions becomes an important component. Regarding the mandatory green pass, we are all vaccinated. For those in possession of it, the quarantine has been reduced, a useful aspect also in terms of work ».

Livio Glerean, diesse of Treviso: «Fair suspension, since it is a period of maximum alert for infections. We hope to be able to start again on January 30, in order to finish the championship regularly. We took the opportunity to give the children a few more days of rest, who are all vaccinated. They worked individually from home. We resume training tomorrow (today, ed) in full ranks, paying even more attention to the protocols we already followed. As reported by the FIGC, no friendly matches until 23 January. The reduction of the “return to play” times was desirable ». –
