On February 27, Beijing time, the Czech Football Association announced on Sunday local time that the Czech Republic would not play in a potential World Cup qualifier against Russia due to the military conflict against Ukraine.
The Czech Republic is the latest team to pull out of the World Cup qualifiers in March, following Poland and Sweden’s announcement on Saturday.
The Czech Football Federation said: “The Executive Committee of the Football Federation unanimously adopted the decision that the Czech national team will not play a possible match against the Russian team in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers under any circumstances. Secretary-General Michal Walter discussed with UEFA and FIFA the decision of the Executive Committee not to play a possible match against Russia.”
According to the original game plan, Russia is scheduled to host Poland in the World Cup play-off semi-final on March 24 local time, and if they advance, they will host Sweden or the Czech Republic in the Group B final on March 29 local time.
The Czech Football Federation said it would not play even if it was moved to a neutral site, and called on Russia to stop military operations as soon as possible.Return to Sohu, see more
