The dean of the coaches to find the square

The Bolognese technician, Sacchetti’s current deputy in the Azzurri, boasts over twenty years of experience in the top flight

SASSARI. The keys to the locker room in the hand of the dean of the Serie A coaches to straighten a situation that had taken a bad turn. Piero Bucchi, born in Bologna in 1958, has coached in nine different squares of the top flight, from north to south, obtaining important successes and an almost unanimous appreciation in the environment.

To date, his appearances on the bench in Serie A are 635, with a total of 334 successes and three trophies won, even if in fact in another basketball era: the Italian Cup in 2000 and the Italian Super Cup 2001 with Benetton Treviso, and the 2006 Italian Cup at the helm of Naples. And then four promotions from A2 to A1.

His first experiences as a coach date back to the mid-eighties, in the Virtus Bologna nursery. Still the youth sector, with Rimini, from 1992, until his first promotion as head coach, again on the Adriatic coast, in 1996. With Bucchi on the bench, Rimini gets promotion to the top flight at the first shot. The following year the definitive take-off, with the move to Benetton Treviso, the conquest of two trophies and the appointment as coach of the year. Then another promotion from A2 to A1, at the helm of Naples, and after the experience at Virtus Roma still an excellent job under Vesuvius. From 2008 to 2011 he was at the helm of Olimpia Milano, with two championship finals lost before moving to Brindisi, the square where he perhaps left his deepest mark: in Salento he centers his promotion to Serie A and says goodbye after 5 years at a very good level .

Then the move to Juve Caserta and subsequently to Virtus Roma, first saved from relegation to Serie B (the Sassari playmate Massimo Chessa is also in the team) and then moved to A1 at the end of the 2019-20 season. Before being called up as assistant coach of the Italian national team, comes the last experience, one of the most bitter of his career: last year Bucchi took over on the bench of Pallacanestro Cantù, failing to save her from relegation. Now he is ready to cross the Tyrrhenian to land in Sassari. Where, to get out of a complicated situation, you will need all his experience. (a.si.)
