«I arrive in Tortona with many stimuli and motivations, I share the goal of improving the result of last season, which is already positive». Fabio Fossati is working with the Juventus management on the construction of the new team and does not hide in aiming for ambitious goals: last year the Derthona in fact closed in fifth place, not disputing the playoffs only for the results of direct clashes, so the ease of a further step forward is not so obvious.
“I take responsibility because I see a passionate environment and work daily with president Cristiano Cavaliere and director Roberto Canepa on the set-up and there are prospects for improvement”. It is therefore not taken for granted that a coach at the start of a new experience comes out into the open from the first day. Will it be a very different Derthona from last season, in terms of players and in terms of tactics?
«For the squad, we will see how the market develops, for sure we have a very good chance of retaining some elements from last season, but it is too early to quantify or identify. On the tactical level, I do not have a single set-up, I work with the three-man defense at the base, but it is the circumstances of the match and the characteristics of the players with their movements that make me lean towards one module or another. What interests me above all is the attitude of the team: I want dynamic, combative, proactive elements, a team that aims at the goal and at the same time has defensive strength ».
Is the experience nominally the most important of your career, understood as the emblem of the team? In his career he obtained promotion to C with Albisola and to D with Arenzano, enormous results but in squares with no great tradition. “Probably Derthona is the top opportunity that I still lacked in Serie D, I also trained in significant squares, but I think this is very interesting”.
Is the agreement with the Juventus managers excellent because you knew each other? “We knew each other up to a certain point, as adversaries and with mutual respect, then over the years the contacts became closer and sooner or later we hoped for the opportunity to work together”. Teti will be the second of him after ending his career: «A great goalkeeper and a great personality profile. In Tortona he knows everyone and knows how to manage the locker room, his experience will be precious. We will focus on young goalkeepers having him as a guide for them, we will look for three under profiles in order not to create disparity in experience but only technical choices ». –
