Beloved and well known thanks to ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and ‘Killing Eve’, the actress Sandra Oh is now the protagonist of a TV miniseries that alternates comedy and drama to tell the story of a woman struggling with the chaotic and difficult management of a university: it is called ‘Director’ and comes out in streaming on Netflix on Friday 20 August. The critics spoke very highly of it.

‘The Director’, all about the TV miniseries

The plot closely follows recently promoted Dr. Ji-Yoon Kim
head of the English faculty of Pembroke University. An already challenging role, made even more difficult by a scandal involving one of the professors and the fact that Kim is the first woman to manage the department, as well as one of the few non-white collaborators within the university.

The miniseries ‘The Director’ (original title ‘The Chair’) was created, written and produced by
Amanda Peet, making her debut in these roles after a decade-long acting career that led her to star in films such as’ 2012 ‘,’ Stoned in Love ‘,’ FBI – Witness Protection ‘and in TV series like’ Jack & Jill ‘and’ The Good Wife ‘. Amanda Peet’s husband, that is
David Benioff, is present as executive producer along with
D.B. Weiss (the two are famous for creating ‘Game of Thrones’). Among the performers we find the aforementioned Sandra Oh, who also took care of the executive production, and then
Jay Duplass (‘Transparent’),
Holland Taylor (‘Revenge of the Blondes’),
Bob Balaban (‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’),
Nana Mensah (‘Thirteen’),
David Morse (‘The Green Mile’) and the very young
Everly Carganilla (‘Yes Day’).

Reviews and how to watch the TV miniseries

On average, critics have reviewed ‘The Director’ more than positively, emphasizing that it is
a witty, intelligent, unsettling show and is capable of dealing in a fun way, but without trivializing them, complex issues such as the right to free speech and the furrows that separate the sexes, races and different generations of individuals.

Those interested in watching the miniseries know that it is composed of
six episodes that last about 30 minutes each: Netlflix publishes them on August 20 in its streaming content catalog.
