«The Freccia dei Vini will return in 2022» The Bombini project

The former rider now head of the Oltrepo Events Committee is working on the 49th edition with Viris and Orga Sport

The Freccia dei Vini, born in 1972 and became one of the most prestigious races on the national calendar, after two years of forced stop due to the pandemic, will return in 2022 to symbolically unite the Lomellina rice fields with the Oltrepo vineyards. This is promised by Emanuele Bombini who was brilliant winner of the Freccia in 1979, today at the helm of the Oltrepo Sporting Events Committee, the association that in May brought the arrival of the 16th stage of the Giro d’Italia to Stradella. Bombini intends to place itself alongside Orga Sport, the organizational branch of Viris Vigevano, to re-propose one of the most spectacular Italian amateur races.

“It is my intention to take charge of the organization of Freccia number 49 in close harmony with Orga and Viris – explains Bombini – making use of the support of local sponsors, of Oltrepo wine producers and Lomelline realities without denying the glorious past of race. However, we will not renounce the active participation of the two historic Vigevano companies, including Viris itself, which will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2022 ».

The Freccia dei Vini, reiterates the x professional rider, “is the heritage of national cycling and of Pavia in particular”.

In Vigevano the reactions are broadly positive. «We await with enthusiasm that the initiative put in place by Emanuele Bombini becomes concrete – comments Giacomo Chiesa of Orga Sport – Personally I left the presidency of Orga even though I will be actively present in the organizational phase of the race.
