CAGLIARI. Cagliari Calcio was awarded this morning, Tuesday 12, at the LaVerdi Auditorium in Milan with the “Collare d’Oro al Merito Sportivo” from the Italian National Olympic Committee. The delivery, announced in November with a letter from the president of CONI, Giovanni Malagò, addressed to the rossoblù president, Tommaso Giulini, and to the honorary president Luigi Riva (already awarded the prestigious award in 2017), took place in the presence of Malagò himself and the Secretary General Carlo Mornati; with them the Undersecretary with responsibility for Sport, Valentina Vezzali, the Mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, the President of the Lombardy Regional Council, Alessandro Fermi, the Prefect of Milan, Renato Saccone, the Quaestor Giuseppe Petronzi and the Rector of Bocconi, Gianmario Verona. CONI thus wanted to reward Cagliari for “the activity carried out and the merits acquired in a century of life”, reads the motivations.
“The Golden Collar represents the highest sporting honor established by CONI to recognize the highest sporting successes achieved by our athletes and also the sporting merits of centenary clubs or those sports managers who have dedicated an important part of their life to the service of sport”. “I would like to express my satisfaction, that of the honorary president Luigi Riva and of the whole Cagliari Calcio club, together with the strong gratitude that we address to CONI for this prestigious recognition”, the words of Tommaso Giulini.
“The Golden Collar for Sporting Merit is an important goal of our sport at the highest levels, receiving it is something extraordinary that honors us and encourages us to do better and better. It is a recognition of the Club’s history, a fair reward for what so many people – from presidents to footballers through to technicians and all those who have worked there – have done in one hundred years of existence of these glorious colors.
