The International Skating Union (ISU) General Assembly held in Phuket, Thailand recently passed a resolution to gradually increase the minimum age of participation in the figure skating adult group from 15 to 17 years old. At the same time, the program content of the competition will also be changed from the original five. for three items.

According to the resolution, the minimum age for participating in the figure skating competition will remain at the current 15 years old in the 2022-2023 season, and will be raised to 16 years old in the 2023-2024 season, and raised to 17 years old from the 2024-2025 season. The International Skating Federation said the decision was aimed at protecting the physical and mental health of young athletes.

ISU President Jan Dikma said: “This is a very important decision and can be said to be historic.”

The figure skating women’s singles champion at the Beijing Winter Olympics was 17 years old when Russia’s Serbakova won the championship, while the outstanding Russian genius Valieva was only 15 years old at the time.

In addition, the ISU Congress also decided to change the content of the figure skating program from the original skating, connection, performance, choreography, interpretation to choreography, skating and performance display.
