[Augusta, April 4, 2022]The 86th Masters will be held from April 7 to 10. This much-anticipated first Grand Slam of the year has gathered the attention of the world. On April 4th, the traditional program of the Masters in recent years, the Drive Chip and Putt National Finals of the Youth Championships, was held at the Augusta National Club, kicking off the competition.
This event, for junior golfers aged 7-15, is divided into 8 groups by gender and age. After three competitions of tee, chip and putt, eight junior players became the final winners: Mia Hammond (14-15 years old girls), Gina King (Jenna Kim, Girls 12-13), Kylie Chung (Girls 10-11), Autumn Solesbee (Girls 7-9); Jaden Dumdumaya (boys 14-15), Michael Jorski (boys 12-13), Bentley Coon (boys 10-11), Hudson Knapp (Boys 7-9).
Since 2013, the tournament was jointly initiated by the US Masters, USGA and the US PGA Association, aiming to guide young players to pay attention to the three skills of teeing, chipping and putting, and to enjoy golf more pleasantly. Since its inception, the event has also become a dream venue for countless young players. These teenage players need to compete in regional qualifiers before reaching the National Finals at Augusta National. For many kids, being able to play at Augusta is a victory in itself. Players like the men’s 12-13 year olds Paul Ancona, Anthony Chen and the 10-11 year old women’s champion Kelly Chung are all improving themselves in interviews. “I’ve seen my friends compete on live TV, and that’s my goal,” said Kelly Chung, who looks quiet and shy. She has regional qualifiers in 2018 and 2019, and in 2021. It was the first time to reach the National Finals at Augusta National. This year, she became the junior champion of her category.
The 7-9-year-old women’s champion Ot Sollesby also used “dream come true!” when he talked about his feeling of winning the championship after the game.
“The most attractive thing about this game for me is that I can come to the Augusta National Club,” said Mia Hammond, the 14-15-year-old women’s champion, who passed the regional competition in 2018. Augusta National Golf Club will officially enter the 2022 Masters this week, following the National Finals of the Junior Cut-Push Championship. This year’s event total prize money of 11.5 million US dollars, Tiger Woods has come to the arena.
