For the South African scrum-half, 56 appearances and 37 points, this is a confirmation. «I am very excited to have been confirmed captain of the Lions for the second consecutive season. They are also for the beginning of a new path, new challenges, a new competition, new players and a new staff. In addition, the new faces will certainly bring a new energy, after a season like last one in which we have gone through difficult times. We learned from what it was like to win a tournament. In the team there is a good balance, experienced players who can teach the youngest to understand what it means to be part of the Lions and represent Benetton Rugby. Last season, also due to Covid, limited us a lot in relationships off the pitch and therefore we will try to recover as far as possible. I am convinced that there are excellent connections between Michele and me, as a young Italian rugby talent with leadership it will be very exciting for him. I will put my experience at your service and we will do our best to represent the green-and-white people ».
Unpublished appointment instead for Michele Lamaro. The third line, 23, from Rome, arrived in Treviso in 2018 as a permit player, immediately becoming a fixed point. In 2019 Michele started as a starter, giving extremely proof that he is already endowed with strong leadership and extreme maturity. In green-and-white he has so far collected 22 appearances and since last season he has been permanently part of the Italian senior national team after having captained the U20 selection for two years. «The role of captain is important, but what matters is what each of us does on a daily basis. It is not something that I have spent too much time on, I have just done my job. I think that being a point of reference for the team is something very important, I am really excited and without a doubt this represents a fundamental step for my career and I want to be able to give my 100% to the team. In these three years I have always tried to give my best and be an example for my teammates. And that’s exactly what I want to continue to be, I’ll be a beacon for the younger kids and show them the way. And the choice of having two co-captains is very interesting, it will give me the opportunity to learn from a person who was our guide last year and who has been since his arrival.
