We had known for some time now that Lana Wachowski was working on the fourth film in the sci-fi saga of ‘The Matrix’, and it was also known the return to the big screen of two of the original protagonists, namely Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss (in addition to Jada Pinkett Smith, appeared in chapters two and three): now we can enjoy the first official trailer of ‘The Matrix Resurrections’, expected in cinemas all over the world at the end of December 2021, in Italy starting from January 1, 2022 (eighteen years after the release of ‘The Matrix Revolutions’, a day or so).
The long production of ‘The Matrix Revolutions’
Rumors about a potential new ‘Matrix’ began to circulate in 2012 after Lana and Lilly Wachowski had preferred to deal with other things for many years and resist pressure from Warner Bros., who would have liked to see them return soon. to tell about Neo, the machines and the virtual world built to imprison us humans. Initially the Wachowskis were not directly involved in the project, then things changed and in August 2019 came the official confirmation of ‘The Matrix Revolutions’, with only Lana behind the camera as Lilly was busy making the TV series ‘Work in Progress’ for Showtime.
The script of the fourth chapter of the saga bears the signature of Lana Wachowski, David Mitchell and Aleksandar Hemon: together they had previously written the final episode of ‘Sense8’, while the two Wachowskis had already worked with Mitchell when they adapted his novel ‘Claud Atlas’. The plot, which remained secret for a long time, is now partially revealed by the trailer, which, however, does not get too unbalanced. It is clear that we find Neo aged, but apparently none of the old friends know who he is, not even the beloved Trinity. What happened and why? At the moment it is not possible to answer.
Last detail, before watching the trailer: in addition to Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and Jada Pinkett Smith, the cast is embellished by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Christina Ricci.
