The Olympic mission starts with Queen Alex: “Let’s go to Tokyo to crown a dream”

UDINE. The Olympic countdown for the “magnificent nine” of the Friulian expedition to Japan is running out, the airline tickets are ready and, now, ten days before the opening ceremony, only the details remain to be finalized. In this climate of fervent expectation it is not easy to steal an interview with Alexandra Agiurgiuculese, very busy these days, in Desio, with the national rhythmic gymnastics team, in the last phase of the Olympic preparation.

Between intense training, physiotherapy and some direct social media, the “Queen” of individual rhythmic gymnastics will have a few more days of work as she will compete right in the queue of the Games. The airman of the Air Force, who will leave Rome on the afternoon of July 31, is giving one hundred percent for what will be one of the most important moments of his career.

Alexandra, what is your mood a few days before departure?

«I am very happy, I hope to be able to give my best and to complete my enterprise. I am training hard and I am perfecting the four exercises to be able to always perform them at my best and I am doing it as many times as possible. For the moment everything is going well ».

What scares you the most about the Olympic adventure?

“In reality, nothing scares me, it is true that it is a different race from the others, but in the end the opponents are always the same and I am quite calm”.

What, on the other hand, excites you the most?

«The fact that in Tokyo there will be all sports. I have already participated in the Mediterranean Games which have a similar organization even if with a smaller number of participating nations and also in the European Games where I tasted an appetizer of what awaits me, so I am very happy and I can’t wait to arrive also to be able to see closely, if I can, the greatest myths of sport, the real stars of the competition ».

Is there an Olympic athlete who inspires you?

“I love all sports and, even if I don’t have an athlete to inspire me, I try to learn from many sportsmen and women, not so much for what they have won but for what they have been able to do, for how they left the sign”.

Do you remember where you followed the Rio de Janeiro Olympics and if you already hoped to experience the following ones as a protagonist?

“Honestly, I don’t remember where I was on that occasion but I always hoped with all my heart that I could get there too.”

How do you think the Games will be without an audience?

«It will certainly be a different competition, there will be a little lack of that adrenaline that the fans are able to transmit to you but I am of the opinion that an occasion like this happens once in a lifetime and that it will be a very special event. I feel a great responsibility and I want to give my best. I hope with all of myself to get to the final ».

His coach Spela Dragas told us that, if he manages to find an inner balance, he has what it takes to achieve this goal. How do you feel from this point of view?

“Spela is right. I simply have to be there with my head, get down on the platform concentrated, stay calm and have fun ».

The wish that the whole of Friuli makes is to succeed. And to be premonitory as in the recent European football final. Can you tell us this curiosity?

«I followed the final with some of my friends here in the hotel in Desio and cheered until the last second screaming with joy after the last save. Because of the tension I was unable to watch the penalties but with every kick from the spot I made a prediction: believe it or not I got them all right! ».
