The artist talks about his connection with cycling (and in a few weeks he will “sign” the stage of a show on Coppi)
PAVIA. «The first time I saw the Giro d’Italia pass I was a child. My dad took me from Dorno to Pavia. I was very young and I only remember a long wait and the passage. It was like a flash ».
The artist Marco Lodola, author of the dust jacket for the special issue of the Provincia Pavese on newsstands on Thursday 27 May, has a special connection with the Giro d’Italia. In 2005 he was the author of the symbolic image of the 88th edition. «It was a tradition that every year an artist interpreted“ his ”Giro. And we passed the baton. I remember, I received it from Lucio del Pezzo – says the artist – it is a pity that that custom has been lost. Then, I admit, I’m not a great suiveur of the Giro. I gave the 88th edition shirt to Jovanotti. Lorenzo went crazy: “For me this shirt is gold”, he told me ».
But Lodola’s link with the Giro and cycling is still solid. In the coming weeks it should set up the stage for a show on the trial against Fausto Coppi, accused with the White Lady of abandoning the marital roof. At the Visconteo castle there will be Nino Formicola and Sabina Negri, in the middle of the stage, a luminous statue of Lodola. “My favourite sport ? Boxing! As a young man I attended the Sconfietti brothers’ gym. Mythical ». –
