Luca Polla in action in Barcelona

The young man from Caleipo has just competed in the “Extreme” in Barcelona The novelty announced for Paris 2024 or at the latest for 2028

Luca Polla’s Olympic dream. Returning from the “Extreme Barcelona” freestyle scooter world championships, nineteen year old Luca Polla from Belluno thinks big. The thirty-third place he achieved in Spain in the Street category is a great starting point to look to the future with confidence.

“There are two categories: Street and Park. In the Park category, athletes do tricks on ramps and are more technical. In the Street, on the other hand, a skatepark is set up with structures that can be found in the street, such as handrails and walls. In Barcelona it went quite well. The standard was very high. Considering that this summer I was able to train little due to various injuries, and I was able to prepare myself practically only in the last two weeks, it is a good result. I stopped at qualifying: for just one point I was unable to access the semifinals. Given the level of the other participants, however, this result is not bad ».

Polla lives in Caleipo, in the municipality of Belluno, and started practicing this sport almost six years ago, in February 2016, at Mel’s skatepark. Over the years he has taken part in numerous European contests. But the most prestigious engagement he has participated in are undoubtedly the very recent freestyle scooter world championships, at the parc de Fòrum in Barcelona. And it was on that occasion that the project to include the scooter among the Olympic sports was anticipated.

“It is not yet clear whether this will already happen in the next Olympics, those of 2024, or in the following ones, in 2028. In any case, one thing is certain: I will work hard to try to be ready, if and when there will be this one. chance”.

Practicing this discipline close to home is not easy. To train, in fact, Polla is forced to leave the province of Belluno regularly, moving to Vittorio Veneto or even outside the region. Among the projects he is working on together with other interpreters of the discipline is the creation of a video to make the scooter known in Italy. In the future, however, he would like to create a photographic book to help those arriving from abroad to identify the spots (or places) where they can practice this discipline.
