The palmares of the Vogherese: team gold at the London games

The carreer

Mauro Nespoli from Voghera is today the strongest Italian archer and one of the strongest in the world.

The silver medal won in the men’s individual archery test at the Tokyo Olympics on July 31 is just the latest achievement by a champion who won his first gold medal at the 1998 Youth Games. In 2002 he was called up for the first time in the Italian junior team and since 2006 he has been part of the senior team.

In 2008 he won the team silver medal at the Beijing Olympic Games. Four years later at the London Olympic Games, on 28 July 2012 he won gold in the team competition. In 2015, at the first European Games, held in Baku (Azerbaijan), he won gold in the Mixed Team paired with the blue Natalia Valeeva. Defeated in the final the Georgian archers. In 2016 at the Rio Games he did not get on the podium, but he made up for it in Japan, at the fourth consecutive Olympics in which he participated. Born in Voghera on November 22, 1987, he came into contact with archery for the first time in July 1997, while he was with his family on vacation in Aprica. A month later he enrolled in an archery course in which the instructor was Luciano Malovini, athlete of the Italian Paralympic National Team. Their relationship has continued over the years, in fact Luciano has become his personal coach. He has always been part of the Dlf Voghera, together with his sister Tamara.

Nespoli auctioned off his bow (including the customized “penguin” riser, the lightest in the world) to contribute financially to the costly treatment of an Israeli archer, Yaron Tal, who suffered from cancer. In 2008 Mauro Nespoli joined the Italian Air Force. In 2015 at the world championships in Copenhagen he won silver in the team competition. In 2017 he participated in the world championships in Mexico City where he became world champion with the men’s recurve bow team (the Olympic specialty). In 2019 in the Netherlands in the mixed team race he won the bronze. In the European Games he wins gold in 2015 in Baku in the mixed team, the same result also four years later in Baku, where he climbs on the third step of the podium also in the team competition. –
