The Spadista di Carlino, team bronze, reached by great affection. And from Japan she thanks moved: “You were there too on the platform”

TOKYO. Dreams exist … and they come true. After the conquest of the team bronze, Mara Navarria was overwhelmed by immense affection: hundreds of messages on her mobile and on social networks, to which she tried to respond while returning to Friuli. Immense joy and emotion rocked the return journey of the Friulian spadista, who will land in Ronchi dei Legionari today in the early afternoon. «Thanks to all of you because, together with me, on that platform there was also all your support and your affection»: these are her words for those who supported and encouraged her. From today he will be able to enjoy a little vacation and let out all the happiness and also the tension he has accumulated on the platforms.

Yet, during the race, she was able to perfectly control her emotions, always remaining lucid. The secret? The work carried out for seven years, together with the mental coach Alessandro Vergendo and the breath trainer Rosarita Gagliardi (both resident in Muzzana and active for years in Marano Lagunare), a work that has led Mara to reach full awareness of her own means from a side and at the same time managing tensions and pressures. «When you are technically prepared – Vergendo explains – it is the mental aspect that makes the difference. During the assaults Mara brought out the best of herself, without losing clarity. This is also thanks to the work we have been carrying out together for years, which is based on a method based on cognitive neuropotentiation. In simple terms, our approach is not to work on discomfort or on a specific problem, but to enhance Mara’s abilities ». A decisive part of this work is constituted by the work done in the water, in apnea. Water has a dual function: on the one hand, it allows you to carry out physical exercises based on the needs and fitness of the athlete (following the instructions of Andrea Lo Coco, Mara’s physical trainer). On the other hand, water helps to manage critical issues: when you are in apnea, you have the sensation of having breath on your neck, of being breathless. Mara, along with Rosarita, became self-aware of her own body.

«Mara has always believed in this innovative work – explains Vergendo -. Over the years we have perfected the work according to his needs and based on his feedback. Mara is a person who works as a team and gives confidence to the people she works with and above all she is an athlete who, when she decides to do something, does it all the way “.

The approach adopted by Mara (which combines mental work with freediving and breath training exercises) is also adaptable to other sports, such as synchronized swimming, triathlon, alpine skiing, snowboarding. The 36-year-old from Carlino was supported, towards the medal, by a team made up of different professionals: the master Roberto Cirillo, who moved to Udine from Rapallo to take care of the technical preparation at Asu, her husband Andrea Lo Coco, physical trainer, and by Vergendo and Gagliardi. –
