Xinhua News Agency, Lausanne, June 8. The Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee held a meeting on the 8th. At the meeting, the list of refugee delegations for the Tokyo Olympics was formally approved. A total of 29 athletes will participate in 12 events in Tokyo.

International Olympic Committee President Bach said that these refugee athletes from all over the world stepped onto the stage of the Tokyo Olympics as a powerful message of unity, tenacity and hope to the world.
According to reports, at the Tokyo Olympics, these 29 athletes will participate in the competition under the Olympic flag; at the opening ceremony on July 23, they will enter the venue second after the Greek delegation; 6 of these 29 athletes Participated in the Rio Olympics.
At the 2016 Rio Olympics, the International Olympic Committee organized a refugee delegation for the first time. At that time, 10 athletes participated in the competition. In 2018, the International Olympic Committee decided to follow this approach in the Tokyo Olympics and created the Olympic Refugee Athlete Funding Program, which has successively funded 56 refugee athletes who meet the requirements to help them continue their sports career.
According to information released by the International Olympic Committee, the athletes of the refugee delegation will gather in Doha, Qatar from July 12th to 13th, and set off for Japan on July 14th.
