There is a new film perfect for those who love sentimental and romantic comedies: it’s called ‘The Valet’ and is streaming on Disney + on Friday 20 May, bringing with it positive reviews from critics. The protagonists are Eugenio Derbez (seen in ‘CODA – The signs of the heart’) and Samara Weaving (‘Nine perfect strangers’), and next to them we find Max Greenfield (‘New Girl’) and Betsy Brandt (‘Breaking Bad’) .

‘The Valet’, all about the film
‘The Valet’ is the US remake of the French comedy ‘A supermodel in my bed’released in 2006. Even with some changes, the plot has remained essentially the same: it tells about Antonio (played by Eugenio Derbez) who works as a valet parking at a luxury hotel in Los Angeles. One day he crashes his bicycle into the car in which the successful actress Olivia Allan (Samara Weaving). Just then a paparazzo is taking a picture of Olivia with married billionaire Vincent Royce (Max Greenfield). The scandal is just around the corner, unless you pretend that Vincent ended up in the photo by accident and that the relationship revealed by the paparazzo was that between Antonio and Olivia. The two agree on the drama, also to appease Vincent’s wife (Betsy Brandt), but the more they know each other, the more they understand that they have a lot to learn from each other.

The screenplay for ‘The Valet’ is written by Rob Greenberg e Bob Fisher: the former won three Emmys thanks to the TV series ‘Frasier’, while the latter wrote things like ‘2 Wedding Singles’ and ‘Overboard’. The direction bears the signature of Richard Wongpreviously author of ‘Colma: The Musical’ and ‘Come As You Are’, among other things.

Reviews and how to watch the movie
It’s not bad, but it’s not beautiful either: a sentence that sums up the average judgment of the critics. The formula of the sentimental comedy it is well applied and always works, especially when, as happens in this case, the two protagonists are nice and those who play them are credible. The very formula, however, makes ‘The Valet’ very predictable and that some narrative pauses sound like delays, rather than a way to give breath to the story.
Those intrigued by ‘The Valet’ will find it in the Disney + streaming content catalog, starting May 20.
