The world dream ends but Sernagiotto is now aiming for redemption in Bahrain

by admin

SAKHIR (BAHRAIN)

The dream has vanished. Giorgio Sernagiotto and Cetilar racing will no longer be able to become 2021 Gte Am world champions. That hope glimpsed after the podium in Spa and exploded with the victory in Portimao turned out to be a mistake, and one of those that hurt. Too heavy the point of Monza and zero of Le Mans to keep the Ferrari 488 evo Gte # 47 running: it’s over, but now all that remains is to try to at least get back to the world podium. Now the goal is this, given that the tenth place in the class (but ninth among the entrants to the World Championship) obtained on Saturday at the 6 Hours of Bahrain caused Serna, Roberto Lacorte and Antonio Fuoco to slide to fourth place in the general on equal points with the ‘Aston Martin # 98. This Saturday, in the second consecutive race in Bahrain but on the 8 hours, Cetilar will play the last few cartridges before boxing a season of dizzying ups and downs. Certainly the garage will not want to deal with a bad luck like the one seen on Saturday: the race was compromised by the timing with which the pit stops arrived. On two occasions, the verdeblu Ferrari entered the pit lane with the green flag, exiting it under the Safety car or Full course yellow regime, which in the first case meant staying on the pit lane exit line for almost two minutes and in the second case losing a mountain of time to the opponents, who had the opportunity to stop to change tires and refuel while on the track no one could exceed the limit of 80 per hour. Circumstances without which Cetilar would have closed with two more laps, and therefore towards fifth or sixth place in class. However, they could not do more, given the problems they had with tire degradation: “We still don’t know what caused these problems,” says Serna, who had his share in the first stint. But of course it was these that triggered the series of real misfortunes which, leading the Ferrari # 47 to return first of all, forced Cetilar to pay duty and the others to exploit their handicaps. However, the World Championship is not over: Thursday starts with free practice from 15.30 Italian, qualifying on Friday at 15.20 and the race from 12 on Saturday. We will have it for 8 hours, the last of the season. –
