PRASCORSANO

After the conquest of the Italian mtb enduro title, which took place on Sunday 4 July, Lorenzo Mascherini, the new 14-year-old from Prascorsano (he turned years on Saturday 10 July) repeated himself, but in the downhill discipline, graduating as Italian champion in the Beginners category last Sunday, 18 July in the test of Piazzatorre, in the province of Bergamo.

The young rider from Prato traveled the three km of the route made of jumps, stones and roots, stopping the time trial in 3’36 “as he says:” After the second place last year, in Viola in the province of Cuneo, where I had been mocked by Christian Hauser, this year it went much better, since I finished first, with a margin of thirty seconds over second – says Mascherini -. I was the runner to beat, my opponents did everything to try to overtake me, but luckily I was very good and focused on both Saturday and Sunday. With my team, the Ancillotti Factory of Salassa, we left on Wednesday 14 July for Val Brembana, because we wanted to prepare as best we could this very important appointment. Thanks also to my team manager Tommaso Ancillotti, who did an extraordinary job preparing me in every aspect of the bike with which I faced the race, I managed to do very well both in free practice on Saturday morning, in qualifying in the afternoon and in race on Sunday », says Mascherini.

Lorenzo Mascherini is already projected to the next challenge to be won, as he himself explains: “The first victory of the Italian enduro championship on Abetone, followed by the call-up with the Italian national downhill team in Pila, a hamlet of Gressan in the Valle d ‘ Aosta, in the weekend from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 July and the conquest of the title of Italian downhill champion in the province of Bergamo gave me further awareness, but I know very well that now the more I go forward, the more difficult it will be for me, because everyone they will always want to try to beat me », explains Mascherini.

The next appointment in which he will participate will be on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 August at the Coppa Italia in Sestriere, while a week later, on Sunday 15 August, he will instead be involved in Austria, at the European championship test, again in downhill: “Two appointments equally important, in which I will want to give my best and confirm how much good I have been able to do in all these years of sport. Mentally I will have to be at the top – says Mascherini – because this type of races, as it was for both the Italian mtb enduro and downhill championships, always hide many pitfalls and must be faced with the right determination, concentration and desire. In these days that separate me from the races I will have to train and with my team manager Ancillotti find the right mechanisms to make the bicycle even more reliable in every comparison. They will be two different tracks, we will now have to concentrate exclusively on one event, then once behind us, we will think about the one in Austria ».
