Last bike ride before the summer break. In September we will return to racing in Gifflenga and Gaglianico, but on Sunday the heart of provincial cycling will be Bioglio. The boys of the Allievi category are back in the race and will compete for the 4th Memorial Elio Allasa, a race that has been revived a few seasons ago, which follows and recalls what was the Triverio Trophy from 1965 to 1984. In those years it was run in August and it was a competition for amateurs and of the highest level.
At the same point where the UCAB Biella (which it organizes together with Valais) sets the finish line today, runners like Moreno Argentin or Silvano Contini triumphed. The Biellaese Renzo Dondoglio won it twice and the last conqueror of that arrival was Luciano Godio di Caneto, a Valsesian almost adopted by the Biellese fans of the time.
In cycling, the best way to remember is to dedicate a race to the characters who made the history of two wheels. Bioglio did not shy away, trying to celebrate the figure of Elio Allasa who from the end of the 70s and the middle of the following decade was its dynamic and modern mayor. But Allasa was also a great of Biella cycling, among other things president of Valais since its foundation in 1945 and for 23 years. Valais which now splits into two different directions. One remains linked to the world of veterans, amateurs, masters, while the other has found a home thanks to the Municipality of Bioglio “We aim at the growth of the very young – says Egidio Carta, one of the supporters of the operation – and we will collaborate with the UCAB to the organization of competitions always for the boys: now that the operational headquarters are there, we can leave ». He is echoed by Piermario Garbino, majority municipal councilor in Bioglio: “The words of the Charter are the same as those of this administration that believes in grassroots sport and its values with activities that aim at authentic sociability.” Allasa would have been happy, as administrator and national councilor of the Federciclismo.
At 10 am the start to cover the circuit of almost 24 km to be repeated three times. There are two important climbs, the first that leads to the Gpm of Valle San Nicolao and the second that from Valdengo goes up to Bioglio. “A complete rider will win – says Filippo Borrione president Ucab -, not a pure climber, and a competitor who must be in great shape”.
