After an opening round of 65 strokes, Thomas Pieters is in a shared third place in the LIV Golf Invitational Las Vegas (20 million dollars). This is played on the Country Club golf course in American Las Vegas (Nevada).
The 32-year-old Antwerp native started with a bogey on his first hole. He then put away six birdies, leaving him with a score of five under par and a tie for third place. In the standings, the six-time European Tour winner has two strokes more than the Englishman Paul Casey and the American Harold Varner III, who share the lead.
Pieters is alone in the lead with his team RangeGoats GC. The captain of the team, the American Bubba Watson, and his compatriot Matthew Wolff also delivered a scorecard of 65 strokes. The fourth player on the team, American Peter Uihlein, recorded a round of 66 strokes, ending day one in seventh place.
In addition to an individual tournament, in which 54 golfers participate, there is also a team classification with an associated prize pool of 5 million dollars to be divided among the first three teams.
