According to Swimming Australia, Ariane Titums, known as the “Queen of Pools” by Australian media, broke the women’s 400m freestyle world record at the Australian National Championships on the 22nd.

According to the Australian Swimming Association, Olympic champion Titums set a new world record with a time of 3:56.40 at the Australian Swimming Championships held in Adelaide, the capital of South Australia on the 22nd. The result is 0.06 seconds faster than the previous world record set by American star Ledecky at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Titums, 21, made a splash at the Tokyo Olympics, winning gold in the 200m and 400m freestyle. Ledecky, who won the silver medal in the 400m, beat the Aussie star in the 800m to win the gold. The fierce rivalry between the two has become the focus of media attention.

Titums said after the game that Ledecky, as a senior, has always been the greatest player in women’s swimming in her heart. “I hope this (breaking the world record) keeps the competition going and gives her some motivation,” Titums said. “Hopefully we can keep swimming faster.”

The tournament will be held from May 18th to 22nd. According to Swimming Australia, this event is also a trial to help Australian athletes prepare for the two major events this year, the World Championships in Budapest to be unveiled next month and the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

With the conclusion of this championship, the Australian Swimming Association announced the list of entries for the World Championships. Olympic champion Titums and Stabotti, who just broke the men’s 200m breaststroke world record, were all selected, and 11 newcomers were selected for the first time.

Eugenie Barkley, CEO of Swimming Australia, said that this year’s World Championships is regarded as the first step on the road to the Paris Olympics. It is believed that Australian athletes can achieve good results and lay a solid foundation for the preparations for the Olympics.

According to reports, the Australian swimming team will set up a training camp in Europe in early June, and then go to Budapest to participate in the World Championships.
