A very strong start and with a high number of shots, Italy immediately takes the lead followed by Ireland, known for starting quietly and exiting in the last meters, and Belgium.
At the passage of 1000 meters Ireland changes pace and overtakes the Italian crew thus taking the lead. From the middle of the race, the Italy of Oppo and Ruta is firmly in second position followed by Belgium in third. Ireland crossed the line not only in first position but also breaking a new world record. Italy conquers the second position, valid for tomorrow’s final.
In the final there will also be the crews of Germany, Uruguay and the Czech Republic. The double Italian is among the favorites to get on the podium. Should this dream come true, Oppo would bring back an Olympic medal after a long 57-year waiting period from the other games held in Japan in 1964.
