MORE. There was no lack of excitement in the opening round of the rallycross season. The traditional Easter Monday race has maintained the premises with twists that have never been lacking, especially in the semifinals and finals.
Specifically, the small kart cross single-seaters that gave the most beautiful moments to the Maggiora offroad arena were, as always, showcasing. In the end, one of the favorites won, that Marcello Gallo already Italian champion and who with this success is a candidate to wear the tricolor helmet of Simone Firenze last year. Gallo deserved the victory for the way he drove, but above all for how he fought to the last meter, even when it seemed that all was lost. The “film” of the competition shows how the Gozzanese won success by fighting tooth and nail. At the start in the final, Marco Berniga, winner of the first semifinal, shoots in the lead and seems impregnable, closely followed by Matteo Grieco and Marcello Gallo who maintain their positions, at least until halfway through and at the end of the “joker lap”, the long lap that every driver must do during the race, Berniga does not touch Matteo Grieco and Mauro Vicario passed the lead.
It is the day of continuous twists. In the early stages of the race, Gallo makes a mistake, turns around after having fought with Riccardo Canzian, then he is the protagonist of an incredible, how fabulous recovery and in the final, half a lap from the end, Vicario overwhelms that nothing can do against “fury »Gallo. A sprint finish with the riders crossing the finish line almost as a group, not even in a cycling race. Final result with victory for Marcello Gallo in front of Mauro Vicario, the two brothers Matteo and Nicolas Grieco, the French Yoann Gillouin, Bossetti, the Belgian Kobe Pauwels, Riccardo Canzian, Federico Pini and the unfortunate Marco Berniga. And the others? Simone Firenze, the Giacomotti brothers, although among the favorites, what happened to them? We need to take a step back and go back to the second semifinal. Good start from Florence which seems impregnable, in front of Grieco and Gallo to chase; seems done and instead the first of a series of twists with the Italian champion who makes a mistake and goes from first to third place. It’s not over. A little more than a lap from the end, Florence, which in the meantime has returned to third place, meets with another driver and says goodbye to the final. Previously bad luck had denied entry to the final to the Giacomotti brothers involved in the chaotic start of the first semifinal.
In the other two categories in the Super touring the German Nils Volland makes a void and in all the heats and in the final he has the only commitment to bring the car to the finish. Behind him good Francesco «Frenk» Fusi, Ettore Barberis, Alberto Palestrini, Matteo Valazza and Mattia Nicolini. Same story in the Super 1600 with solo success of the German Nils Volland who preceded Paolo Diana, Silvano Ruga and Paolo Barbieri. —
