Turin, the Paideia Foundation launches bike sharing for disabled children

TURIN. Accessible bike sharing for disabled children is born in Turin: it will be a free service offered by the Paideia Foundation, which has been active in the Piedmontese capital for thirty years to support families with children or young people with disabilities. Fourteen vehicles, all different and designed to meet different needs, will be available upon reservation. There will be bikes that have a wheelchair-type station in front of them that can be detached from the vehicle if you want to take the child to a bar or an outdoor area, and others that have space to accommodate the wheelchair. But also small bikes with particularly safe wheels to teach children with disabilities to ride a bike alone.
The words of the mayor
The initiative, which is part of the Foundation’s projects for sport, was presented today in the presence of the mayor of Turin, Stefano Lo Russo. «In this project – said Lo Russo – I really appreciate the care element of social relations. Loneliness is a delicate issue that affects all social strata. The pandemic has brought so many bad things, including a feeling of fragmentation and isolation. The institutions are responsible for bringing the Turinese back aware that they are not alone and that they can ask for help. Making sporting practice accessible to all qualifies this project, which the City fully shares ».
The numbers of the Foundation
The Paideia Foundation, underlined the general secretary Fabrizio Serra and the head of sports activities Elena Grosso, it currently follows about 700 families who have children with disabilities. In the center, they pointed out, there is also a small swimming pool which is not intended for physiotherapy but for recreation. With the “Everyone in the saddle” project, the goal is both sporty and playful: to let parents, brothers and sisters all stay together to live an experience of well-being.
