The curtain falls on the International Canoe Slalom held on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 April. Two days of great sport with 230 athletes from 17 countries and a single regret, the total absence of an audience at the stadium due to the ban on gatherings. An applause certainly goes to the Ivrea Canoa club which, in such a complex moment, took care of the organization. «I would like to emphasize – he says Mario Di Stazio, president of the Ivrea Club – how flawless everything was. The safety criteria for athletes and companions have been fully respected. From a technical point of view, the competitions were fought and of a high level with nations that, right here in Ivrea, were looking for passes for the Tokyo Olympics. And thanks also to the municipal police and to all the police who have watched over these days ».
Giuseppe D’Angelo, technical organizer, has no doubts: «We are counting on a well-established working group made up of willing guys and athletes from the Ivrea canoa club, people who mobilize themselves with enthusiasm for the good of society. In this regard, I think it is right to mention Monica Bongioanni who takes care of the catering group, Matteo Cerrano, who manages the competition field, Leonardo Curzio, race secretary, Marcello Pistoni, canoe rescue manager who has been collaborating for some time with the rescue operators group in water of the Red Cross, Emanuela Bettini for the ceremonial and Sissi Confalonieri for the assistance to judges and timekeepers ». “Excellent organization, maximum respect for safety, difficult and selective path as the Ivrea canal has long accustomed us”, are the words of Massimo Bucci, president of the Piedmont Regional Committee of Fick. From a purely sporting point of view, radiant Cristian De Dionigi, winner with merit among the K1s: «An important victory that I sought with great determination both on Saturday and Sunday. The course was of an absolute technical level equal to those found during the World Cup races. In Ivrea we are well aware of the difficulties that can be found on the Dora, they are always an unknown factor and a surprise ».
Smiling Stefanie Horn who won two first places in both days in the international: «I’m really happy. Now I have officially won the seat for the Tokyo Olympics, the one that was revoked and put back into play in December.
