Udinese, the Maxi Romero deal is jammed: the PSV calls him back to the Netherlands to train

by admin

After the visits made to Rome on behalf of the Juventus club, the negotiations seemed to be in decline. There are key details to settle for buying the redemption loan attacker

UDINE. The announced transfer of Maxi Romero to Udinese, the Argentine striker who returned to Eindhoven, hastily recalled by the PSV after the medical examinations sustained last week at Villa Stuart, in Rome, on behalf of the Juventus club which to his trusted luminary, Pier Paolo Mariani, had entrusted with the task of ascertaining the suitability of a player returning from a long period of inactivity following the rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament.

And since Romero hadn’t played an entire game since March 9, 2020, the check-up really seemed the last obstacle, the most fraught one, before the signing and the subsequent officialization, to the point that in recent days the idea had made its way that failure to announce could depend precisely on the outcome of the exams.

However, it did not go this way, because Romero overcame the visits (as filtered by the club), as opposed to the issues relating to the contract on which Udinese and PSV had an unexpected hitch. It is for this reason, therefore, that since Friday the striker born in 1999 responded to the call of the PSV and resumed training, albeit in a differentiated form, with the Dutch, thus finding himself a thousand kilometers away from that Friuli in which, according to the plans, he should have found himself in these days to look for a house and take the first steps in the acclimatization phase.

In short, even the physical distance, with the attacker waiting in Eindhoven, seems to highlight that relating to the lack of agreement between the clubs. Yet there had already been talk of a contract defined on the basis of a (onerous) loan with the right of redemption in favor of Udinese, apparently already set at 3.5 million euros, with percentages also defined for the player’s agent, that Davor Curkovic that Gino Pozzo know well after also dealing with the engagements of Ilija Nestorovski e Mato Jajalo, both belonging to his stable, the Universal Sports Group.

Therefore, something must have happened during the negotiations in the last few days – a disagreement on bonuses could be hypothesized or a revision of the conditions relating to the exercise of the right to redeem – otherwise the “stand by” status now imposed on a transfer would not be explained which had been announced and above all not denied by the club, unless Udinese took a step back on the basis of other considerations.

And in this case, the hypothesis of an afterthought on the Argentine should be associated with the small-big gamble relating to the slots reserved for non-EU citizens, since going to occupy one of the two available, with a player “rusty” from inactivity and which may take a long time to offer brilliance and contribution, could represent a poorly calculated risk.

All this is happening in the days when the former “special observed” Sydney Van Hooijdonk, associated with Udinese until last week, is defining his transfer to Bologna, including medical examinations and signing on the upcoming contract.
