Dal Cin, Miano, Calori and Amoroso recall their past in the society with which they made history

UDINE. Once upon a time there were a manager, a Friulian, a captain and a foreigner. It is not the beginning of a joke, but the choice we made to wish Udinese our best wishes for his 125th birthday which falls on Tuesday 30 November. Let’s talk about Franco Dal Cin, Paolo Miano, Alessandro Calori and Marcio Amoroso.

He arrived in Udine in 1976 together with Sanson, built the team that made the double jump from C to A and brought Zico to Friuli. «I have dedicated eight years of my career to this company. I have always tried to give my best to help Udinese grow. Sometimes I have even succeeded. In return, I received the best eight years of my professional life. I can only say thank you to Udinese ».

Then he adds: «I live in Udine, I have remained fond of this square. In my career I made two mistakes: leaving Udinese for Inter and sacking Lucescu at Reggiana. Had I stayed in Udine, perhaps I would have made sure that the Zico affair had another epilogue ».

He is the boy from San Pietro al Natisone who at the age of 13 starts going to Moretti. «I did the whole process in the youth teams until my debut in Serie A with Pistoiese in February 1981 – recalls Paolo Miano -. As a child I cheered for Juve, but playing for my homeland team was a special emotion. Even more so considering that in two years we have gone from a team fighting to save itself to one in which the strongest footballer in the world had arrived: Zico. In the first year when we went around Italy we had the same following as Juve ». He then returned to Udinese as a technical collaborator: «I gave my small contribution to the European conquests of the Guidolin era. For me Udinese is and always will be many beautiful things ».

He was the captain of the first European Udinese (1997), but when he arrived in Friuli from Pisa (1991) the bianconeri were in Serie B. «In reviewing certain images on Sunday in the stadium’s auditorium I shivered. Ajax, the full stadium. As long as you play and you are a protagonist you do not realize what is happening. It is time that increases the value and scope of what we have been able to do. And I will always feel like the captain of the first European Udinese ». It has been a long journey, started from afar.

«It has been a constant growth on the part of everyone: the club, the team, the environment. In fact, in those years we built that future that still resists today ». And the fans know it: the applausometer on Sunday in Friuli was clear: Calori, Poggi and Bertotto a cut above all.

He is one of the foreigners who have remained in the hearts of the fans the most. It arrived in Udine in the summer of ’96 presented by Zico in Piazza San Giacomo. «Udinese are the team that opened the doors of Europe to me. When I arrived I did not imagine that I would achieve certain goals, but I strongly believed in my possibilities and Gino Pozzo was good at understanding that I had the right characteristics to break through.

A great esteem and friendship will always bind me to him ». The bond will also be with the fans forever: «I always felt at home in Udine. I was lucky enough to find the right people who have always helped me. Above all I mention three names: Alessandro Scarbolo, Michele De Sabato and Franco Causio. The best moment? The first time in Uefa: it all started with that victory in ten in Turin over Juve ».
