Rome, 9 May 2021 – For the moment the European Commission has not renewed its contract for Covid vaccines developed by AstraZeneca beyond the expiry of the current contract, scheduled for the end of June. This was announced by the European Internal Trade Commissioner Thierry Breton. Yesterday the Commission announced that the European Union will buy up to 1.8 billion more doses of the vaccine from Pfizer / BioNTech.

Meanwhile, the Covid Crisis Unit of the Lazio region announces that “the slots available for booking the Pfizer vaccine for the month of May. There are still 100,000 reservation slots available for the AstraZeneca vaccine and the Johnson and Johnson single-dose “.

Of the 26 million 916,650 doses of the anti-Covid vaccine delivered to Italy, 23,349,402 (equal to 87%) were administered (yesterday’s figure). Therefore 3,567,248 remain in the fridge. Of these, about 3 million are equally divided between Astrazeneca and Pfizer, which has the highest rate of administration: 92% of the 17,796,870 doses delivered, while AstraZeneca is 76% of the 6,565,080 delivered. Moderna is at 82% (out of 2,217,900) .The lowest share is recorded by the single-dose J&J, with 46% of administrations (out of 336,800). The greatest quantities of unused Astrazeneca occur in Sicily (52%), Trento Province (56%), Basilicata (57%).
