The captain leaves, but does not abandon ship. He will simply be an excellent spectator. Sometimes, the choices of life overtake the joyful ones related to football, still a good hobby for him. Filippo Catenacci has decided not to actively take part in this season finale with Varzi. He explains the reason why: «It was a very painful decision, due to work and family reasons. Taking a tampon a week could bring risks and consequences both for my work and consequently for family life, and for just two months of the season it was honestly not worth it. It was right to start again, I have no doubts, but I hope that this part of the format will be revised in August, also because we would be talking about 35/36 tampons in eight months. I would like to clarify that I have not definitively left football, it is only a temporary choice. The idea is to return to the starting line for next season ».
Mirko Santobuono also made the same choice. Varzi, first in the standings after three days of group B, will have a top match on Sunday. First against second, on the field of the City of Sangiuliano, according to many, the favorite team for the jump in series D. The grenades do not yet know if they will be able to get back the attacking winger Mario Rebecchi, recovering from a calf problem, and not even the central defender Paolo Scarcella, after having found the other central defender Andrea Cigagna and the young midfielder Giacomo Serralunga. But the squad is large and well equipped, captain’s word: «I saw my teammates very well – added Catenacci -. When there is no pressure, you can play in peace. In this championship, whoever is better off wins. In a championship consisting of 34 games, the speech would have been different, and in the long run the values on the field would have been seen. Although I consider Varzi an equipped team, I never thought in the first part of the season that we could aspire for the final victory. The team can no longer count on me and Santobuono, and at the moment also on Rebecchi and Scarcella, but some great players have arrived. I refer above all to Di Placido, Moltini and Zanellati, who I hope will remain regardless of the category ».
Varzi will have his say all the way through. «We are an excellent team, which is playing calmly from a mental point of view. There are at least 3-4 teams who instead have the pressure on them. Two of these (City of Sangiuliano and Alcione, ed) will be the next opponents and these are two important tests to evaluate our ambitions ». –
