Vigevano part with the handbrake then folds a difficult Sangiorgese

by admin

Elachem is confirmed in second place, Gatti is the best scorer with 16 points. Saturday direct confrontation with Omegna

VIGEVANO

A difficult game to win. There is no other way to define the match between Vigevano and Sangiorgese, which Elachem won 75-63. The ducals were returning from an away victory last week against Oleggio and needed a positive result to get to Saturday’s direct clash with Omegna, the other second behind the leaders San Miniato.

An uphill start

San Giorgio a Vigevano does not come as a sacrificial victim, despite the difference of ten points in the standings. The guests start with the right attitude and the ducals struggle to defend under the basket coming out of the blocks. So Sangiorgese tries a timid escape by tracing a 0-7 run, closed on 7 ‘by Angelucci’s triple (10-20). The ducals are not impressed and the new defense developed by Piazza with a long one always garrisoning the retina bears fruit, after some problems at the beginning.

Most of the yellow and blue baskets come from steals and transitions, but also from clean shots from the perimeter of Ferri (13-20) and Mercante (18-23). To overtake the Legnanesi, however, we have to wait for the second quarter with Gatti who scores 29-28 from below and starts Vigevano’s first escape. The guests try to limit the damage with the “box and one” defense, but their problem is not in the defensive phase. But in attack, because they score only 6 points in the whole second quarter, against 19 of Vigevano who thus closes the long break at 42-32. Upon returning, the yellow and blue immediately find the way to the basket and it is a good sign. The Procacci-Giorgi axis works and after a few seconds they show a ball inside and a basket that brings the result to 44-32.

Vigevano understands that it is time to increase the escape and first Procacci to the free and then Peroni alone from the baseline further detach the opponents. When Rossi then recovers the ball under his own basket and goes off alone on the counterattack, scoring the scoreboard 50-36, the Sangiorgese case could be archived. The only problem that Vigevano has, however, are the fouls both at team level and for individuals. The bonus achieved almost immediately sends San Giorgio to the bezel several times, where precision is not lacking. It takes two triples from Peroni to bring the ducals back to a safe distance.

At the opening of the last period, Mercante’s free basket, combined with Gatti’s two points that bring the result to 64-50, could once again make the hosts breathe a sigh of relief. But the Sangiorgese decides to stay in the game until the end and complicate life at Elachem Vigevano. San Giorgio su Legnano gets into the zone and starts hitting in transition, reaching -7 at the most delicate moment for Vigevano who loses Giorgi for five fouls. The ducals try different penetrations, but struggle to score. In the last minutes, the low averages shot by the guests and the grim defense of Vigevano allow the boys of coach Piazza to lead the game into port.

After the success it is already time for eve. In fact, the expectation of the big match on Saturday evening at 21 against Omegna is growing. It will be played at the home of the formation of the province of Verbania. Yesterday Omegna won against Legnano, further detaching another pursuer and making Saturday night’s match with Vigevano take on even more importance.
