With the 31 points scored on Sunday in the derby against Pavia, Gianluca Giorgi was the mvp of the derby overwhelmed by Vigevano. The performance earned the ducal pivot (26 years, 200 cm tall), the first place in the ranking of the percentage of shooters in group A of Serie B, with 67%.

Giorg is experiencing an extraordinary moment from a sporting point of view, which also goes beyond the superlative test in the derby, given the continuity of performance. «I have not paid much attention to the statistics and what are my averages so far – says the center from Vigevano – and I don’t think they depend on having changed the type of game, compared to last season. As in 2020-21, the team goals remain important to me and up to this point we cannot fail to say that we are satisfied, with the exception of the away match at Empoli, where we lost on a field that is still very difficult for everyone. The positive note is that we immediately went back to winning at home, against a strong and experienced team like Pavia, after an intense week, in which we prepared the PalaBasletta match with the utmost attention. We have not lost the focus of concentration. In this case, individual performances don’t count, but the positive element is that we started well, like last season in which we won seven games in a row. I am convinced – continues Giorgi – that if I have more balls to shoot it does not depend so much on me as on the team play that we are putting into practice also in this championship ».

Last Sunday one of Vigevano’s strengths – and one of the keys to the great victory – was the play-pivot axis, which was born from Giorgi’s particular understanding with point guard Procacci. «We are all looking for each other – observes Giorgi – and we want to get everyone into the game as well as possible, if we see that someone is in difficulty we try to involve him.
