The feat of a 30-year-old: 40 days to circumnavigate the island
VILLASIMIUS. He completed the circumnavigation of Sardinia on a “stand up paddle” a surfboard 3.90 meters long, using a paddle as an oar. Forty days of sailing at sea without any assistance and support. The thirty-year-old Fabrizio Cardia, in possession of the surveyor’s diploma obtained in Galilei Institute of Cagliari, assistant to the family window and door company set up by his father Giulio located in the industrial area of the leading center of the holiday industry on the south-east coast. A surfing enthusiast who has been practicing successfully since he was a child, Andrea has planned the route down to the smallest detail which, however, has been forced to modify more than once due to weather and sea conditions.
On the table he placed a bag weighing about 30 kg containing water and long-life food. During the circumnavigation he oriented himself with a watch – gps phone.
“It was a wonderful experience. I had the opportunity to visit fantastic places and to meet wonderful people during the stops who encouraged me”.
Did everything go as smoothly as you planned? “Unfortunately not. More than once I have found myself in difficulty, especially in crossing the Strait of Bonifacio due to sea currents, in the stretch between Stintino and Argentiera due to a disturbance and at Capo Teulada”.
On average, how many nautical miles did you travel on average each day? “About 17 miles, just over 30 km Gornalieri”.
During the circumnavigation in moments of difficulty, did you think of interrupting the company and giving up? “Yes, at least twice. But I gritted my teeth and thanks to my stubbornness and willpower I overcame the slip and managed to continue and complete the circumnavigation”.
During the stops where did you stay and eat? “Mainly in the campsites. Obviously I am very satisfied to be able to realize the feat that I have wanted to accomplish for some time”.
Who do you feel like to thank in particular? “The only sponsors, the owners of the” Relax Wine Bar “in via del Mare di Villasimius”.
Do you have any other businesses planned? “Yes, at present, however, I consider it premature to talk about it. I like adventure and risk.”
