Vlhová and Baldissarutti put the Olympics in their sights. After winning the 2020-2021 World Cup (and two silvers at the Cortina World Cup), the Slovak champion is preparing for the 2021-2022 season, a winter in which she will focus everything on the Beijing Games.
At his side there will be, as in the last two seasons, Matteo Baldissarutti. The technician from Santo Stefano di Cadore will remain on Petra’s staff, as will the athletic trainer Marco Porta. On the other hand, there will no longer be the head of the Vlhová team, Livio Magoni from Bergamo, and the skiman, Gigi Parravicini.
The clamorous separation from Magoni, which in five years brought her to the top of the world, began to be talked about right after the conquest of the Cup, at the end of March, but the news became official only in recent days. To cause the divorce, problems that had been dragging on for a while. The straw that broke the camel’s back, an interview in Corriere della Sera in which Magoni expressed himself in these terms.
«Italy with Bassino, Brignone and Goggia has three diamonds: if they are not wrong, they can only go fast. Compared to those diamonds, Petra is an iron ».
It is difficult, after such a declaration, to imagine the continuation of the relationship, even if the agreement between Magoni and Vlhová was valid until the end of next season. Now, therefore, we change. Although not quite.
“Petra asked me to stay and I gladly accepted,” says Baldissarutti who, on March 30, with Petra and all the staff was received by the president of Slovakia, Zuzana Caputova. “There was a meeting of all the staff and Petra, as never before, made the decisions herself. The staff will undergo a major change. It will remain me and Marco Porta, the athletic trainer. There will be a new skiman and there will also be a new head coach. My role? It will change a bit: up to now I have also given a big hand for the preparation of materials, now I will concentrate on the technical part, as second to the new head coach ».
Work for next season will begin very shortly.
“Petra took two weeks off because, at the end of a really intense season, she was really cooked”, says the Comelian coach. «By the end of the month, however, we should already be back on track, in Jasna, Slovakia, where the weather conditions are still winter».
What will be the goals of the season?
“Without a doubt the Olympics,” replies Baldissarutti. «It is unthinkable to concentrate on the Cup and the Games. We saw it this season, where Petra went down on the occasion of the Cortina World Cup ». –
