Jasper Philipsen (Ansa)

Albacete, August 18, 2021 – The stage 5 from the Return 2021 surprise takes off the red shirt from the shoulders of Rein Taaramae, involved in a maxi fall as well as Romain Bardet: the new leader of the general classification thus becomes Kenny Elissonde, but to celebrate, for the second time in this one Tour of Spain, and also Jasper Philipsen, which with a long and powerful sprint beats all the other sprinters. There stage 6, the Requena-Alto de la Montana de Cullera from 158,3 km, presents a very strange path: the first part of the hamlet is downhill, then there is a long stretch in the plain and finally a final stretch of 2 km al 10% which promises to be the perfect terrain for some strikers.

The breaking latest news

The fugitives of the day are Pelayo Sanchez (Burgos-BH), Oier Lazkano (Caja Rural – Seguros RGA) e Xabier Mikel Azparren (Euskaltel – Euskadi), whose action ends 14 km from the finish. At this point the situation in the group is agitated, reaching its peak with a maxi fall that involves the red jersey among others. Rein Taaramae (Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux) e Romain Bardet (Team DSM): both remain heavily delayed, with the Estonian (already finished on the asphalt yesterday) losing the symbol of primacy in a very quiet day on paper. Instead, I’m celebrating Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Fenix), which with a very long sprint finds an encore after the success already achieved in the stage 2 e Kenny Elissonde (Trek-Segafredo), which becomes the new red jersey.
