Milan, 4 October 2021 – The news had been in the air for hours and now it’s official too: Claudio Ranieri returns to coach in England, to be precise al Watford. The club in the hands of the Pozzo family has chosen to entrust the bench to the former Sampdoria after having exonerated Xisco Munoz, which paid off the bad start to the season, made up of only seven points scored in as many days, with two wins, one draw and four defeats. Ranieri has signed a biennial and his staff at the Hornets will be composed of deputy Paolo Benetti, Filippo Cornacchia and the athletic trainer Carlo Spignoli, who also shared their last experience in Genoa with the Roman coach.
Previous British experiences
The one at Watford will be the fourth overseas adventure for the almost 70-year-old, after those at Chelsea (dal 2000 al 2004), al Leicester (from 2015 to 2017 and al Fulham (from 2017 to 2019). The last two ended with as many exemptions, but in England Ranieri is highly regarded after the unforgettable title he won at the helm of the Foxes in 2016. The debut of “Re Claudio” will take place on Saturday 16 October and will be fiery, given that Watford will be called up to play on the friendly field of Vicarage Road against Liverpool.
