Recently, Spain’s “Abesai” published an article in a report that scholars from the University of Alicante in Valencia, Spain, analyzed the reasons for the failure of the Chinese men’s football team from the aspects of culture, family values, and language.

Jennifer Pedro de Blas, a researcher in the sports program at the University of Alicante in Spain, said in the paper, “Chinese parents often prioritize schoolwork and do not consider combining study and sports, which is very common in Western countries.”

“In China, young people respect the opinions of their families, so they don’t pay attention to professional football.” Compared with Western culture, “Chinese culture is rich in norms, which means that many learnings are mainly achieved through repetition and improvement – This is useful for individual sports, but football requires individual talent and improvisation, and the traditional way of learning in Chinese culture is not optimal for developing football players,” the researcher said.

In addition, another factor analyzed in the paper is related to language: “Language is the most important obstacle for foreign coaches, because it hinders the accurate transfer of information, because during the translation process, they are always influenced by the translator’s thoughts”.

To draw his conclusions, De Blas, who until a few years ago was an international women’s futsal player at the University of Alicante, combined interviews with Spanish and Chinese professionals working in the Asian country and more on the football world. Working international professionals conducted a series of surveys with a total of 115 people.

The opinion of this paper published by the Spanish media also revealed the current situation facing Chinese football youth training. For primary and secondary schools across the country, sports and education should be combined, and when children grow up to a certain age, they can freely choose. Some gifted children, after professional guidance, may go to the professional road and become excellent athletes. There are also children who are not talented, but like to play football very much, so they can continue to participate in amateur football activities to expand the football population base.Return to Sohu, see more
