With Tanzi, Parma conquered Europe: two Uefa cups and a Cup Winners’ Cup

by admin

Three Italian Cups, one Cup Winners’ Cup, two Uefa Cups, one European Super Cup and one Italian Super Cup. Calisto Tanzi, as owner of Parma from 1989 to 2003, wrote the history of the Emilian club and conquered Europe. A story that begins after Parma’s promotion to Serie A. The Gialloblù, in fact, were bought from Calisto Tanzi’s Parmalat.

In the first season in the top flight, Parma coached by Nevio Scala ranked sixth, synonymous with their debut in the Uefa Cup for the following season. Thus began the European adventure of the Emilian club. On May 14, 1992, Parma’s first national trophy arrives. The Emilian club wins the Italian Cup by beating Juventus in the final.

The following year, on May 12, 1993, Parma at Wembley Stadium in London beat Antwerp 3 to 1 and won the Cup Winners’ Cup, thus collecting Parma’s first international trophy. In February 1994 Parma won the European Super Cup by beating Milan at San Siro. On May 4, 1994, the Emilian club failed to win an encore. In fact, Parma lost 1-0 to Arsenal in the final of the Cup Winners’ Cup.

In the 1994-95 season, however, Parma won the Uefa Cup by beating Juventus in the double final. In 1996-97 the Parma of coach Carlo Ancelotti finished second behind Juventus with the first qualification for the 1997-1998 Champions League. In 1999 comes the second Uefa Cup. Parma, with Alberto Malesani on the bench, beat Olympique Marseille 3-0. In that year there is also a new victory in the Italian Cup. The Emilian club beat Fiorentina in the double final during the 1998-1999 season. In the 2001-2002 season comes the third Italian Cup. The Emilian club beat Juventus in the final.
