World Flight Championships in Alassio De Sanctis: “An important relaunch for our world”

by admin

Marco Giunio De Sanctis, former high-level athlete, now president of the Italian Bocce Federation, is a fighter with a passionate temperament, looks ahead and never gives up. For this reason, together with the Federal Council, he backtracked on the women’s and seniors World Flight Championships in Alassio, authorizing it to be held.

“We will also participate – he explains – in the Youth Flight World Championship in Martinique and in two European Championships in Petanque. Not only that: next year there will be the Raffa Youth World Cup at the Federal Technical Center in Rome, which we have been forced to move due to the pandemic ”.

The FIB gives an important signal: “The Alassio World Championship – explains the president – will be held at PalaRavizza in an extraordinary venue. A noteworthy spectacle, flying is a much loved, very competitive discipline. Prince Albert of Monaco will also be present as guest of honor. An important relaunch for our Federation, a great satisfaction for our entire movement ”.

Eight titles up for grabs: the five women’s titles (individual, couple, precision shooting, progressive shooting and relay) foreseen in the original program, will also be added to that of the mixed couple, which will be awarded for the first time in Alassio, and two men’s, that is to say the individual test and the one in pairs. As per tradition, the latter will be combined with the Prince of Monaco Cup. The Alassio World Cup will make use of the direct Rai.

“We are working on the renovation of the Palasport and on further expansion projects of other structures, faithful to a path that we started three years ago”, explains the city councilor Roberta Zucchinetti. A conference on women’s sport will be organized concurrently with the World Cup, with internationally renowned speakers.

“The sport of bowls has a great tradition in Liguria, so much so that the current law on sport includes this activity among the most practiced disciplines in the area – remembers the Councilor for Sport of the Liguria Region, Simona Ferro – This event had been missing for a while ‘of years in Italy and never took place in Liguria. We are honored “.

The organizers expect an audience presence of over 500 people on weekdays and 2000 people in the final competitions and in the ceremonial phases. Almost twenty delegations from all over the world should be present for a total of about 150 participants. Some nations, unfortunately, will not be able to see the pandemic. But the FIB, in addition to the Alassio World Championship, the flagship of the season, certainly does not neglect national activities. Indeed, despite a thousand difficulties, we never stopped. The Federal Technical Center of Rome will be the protagonist as usual: on 4-5 September with the Italian Junior Championships of Raffa, on 30-31 October with the National Championships Over 50 and 60 again by Raffa, on 20-21 November with the Absolutes of Raffa, Volo and Petanque with the live Rai. So forward, with courage and determination, waiting for better times.
